Every Monday through Thursday from 3:30 to 5:30, about 100 students at Maury River Middle School receive free homework help and attend various workshops. The program, called NEXT, includes art, cooking, knitting and photography classes.
Funded by a 21st Century Learning grant under the federal No Child Left Behind law, the program receives nearly $160,000 in funding. The program was created to increase the graduation rate and improve performance for at-risk children.
