Two candidates are competing for the Board of Supervisors Buffalo District seat – Janet M. Mogensen and John Marshall Higgins.
Mogensen, running as a Republican in the nonpartisan race, owns the Virginia Safari Park, a major tourist attraction in Natural Bridge. She says she will focus on keeping taxes low and will bring her perspective as a private business owner to the Board of Supervisors.
Higgins, who identifies himself as an independent, is a native of Rockbridge County. He has been superintendent of the county jail for the past 20 years. He says he believes in working for the common people, and that his political views don’t lean either way. His campaign is focused on preserving the community’s roots and bringing in new jobs so the county’s natives can stay and work here.
There is only one candidate on the ballot for the Natural Bridge District – David W. Hinty Jr. He is running unopposed to replace Hunt Riegel, who is retiring after one term on the board.
