Construction is nearly complete on Devil’s Backbone, a 15,000-square-foot brewery on North Lee Highway. The Nelson County-based brewing company will begin production by Dec. 1. It plans to start selling a mix of 10 to 12 year-round and seasonal beers, beginning in January. Sam Crickenberger, Rockbridge County planning director, said the new brewery will create jobs and contribute to the county’s tax base. This is the second brewery to open in the area in the past year. Blue Lab in Lexington opened last November.
